The Atlas Copco SF4 145 AFF (8153613651) is a tank-mounted, oil-free scroll air compressor rated at 5 hp (nominal 4 kW) that delivers 12.7 cfm (6.0 l/s) at 100 psi (6.9 bar), with a maximum operating pressure of 141.4 psi (9.75 bar). Oil-free means the air-producing element never lets the compressed air touch lubricating oil, so what leaves the machine is clean air with no oil carry-over. That makes it well suited to applications where even a trace of oil in the compressed air cannot be tolerated.

This 5 hp class suits small workshops that need a steady, quiet supply of high-quality compressed air rather than large volumes. The unit is mounted on a 72 US gallon (270 liter) air receiver, a storage tank that holds a reserve of compressed air, steadies the pressure your tools see and smooths out short peaks in demand.

Compression is done by an oil-free scroll element, sometimes called the airend, which is the heart of the machine. One fixed scroll and one orbiting scroll interlock; as the orbiting scroll turns, it seals off the inlet and squeezes the air into a progressively smaller pocket before releasing it through a port at the center of the fixed scroll. Because the process repeats continuously, the air comes out as a smooth, pulse-free flow rather than in surges.

As a Full Feature model, it comes with an integrated refrigerant air dryer built into the package. The dryer chills the compressed air to wring out moisture as condensate and drain it away, so the air reaching your piping and tools is dry and far less likely to cause rust or damage downstream.

Drive comes from an IE3 premium-efficiency, TEFC (totally enclosed, fan-cooled) motor wired for trivolt operation on 208/230/460 V, 60 Hz supplies, so it can be matched to the voltage available at your site. An electro-pneumatic controller holds the machine to your pressure setting, the super-silent acoustic enclosure keeps it quiet enough to install directly on your work floor, and SMARTLINK connectivity allows remote monitoring and optimization of the machine. The compressor has a footprint of 45 in (1,143 mm) long by 26 in (660 mm) wide by 58 in (1,473 mm) high and weighs about 551 lb (250 kg), so allow room for airflow and servicing around it. This is a fixed-speed unit, which works best where air demand is reasonably constant; if your usage swings widely through the day, a variable-speed compressor from the Atlas Copco range may run more efficiently.
